Why an IP check is more than a location

Location, risk score and AI service availability answer different questions. Keeping them separate prevents a single number from being mistaken for certainty.

Location is only the first layer

An IP location usually describes the carrier egress or data-centre region, not where a person is sitting. Mobile networks, corporate uplinks and proxy egress can all produce a plausible city that is far from the actual user.

A risk score answers a different question

Risk signals such as proxy, VPN, hosting, Tor and reputation data help estimate whether an egress looks like an ordinary residential connection. They do not prove that an account is safe, and they do not replace login, payment or device-level controls.

AI services add official region rules

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other services do not share one country list. Web apps and APIs can also follow different rules. An IP can look clean on a risk score and still fall outside a service's officially supported region.

ip-find keeps these layers visible:

  • Base check: IP, location, ASN, ISP, IP type and native-IP signals;
  • Risk check: proxy, VPN, hosting, Tor and optional reputation data;
  • AI scenarios: official region gates, network-type caps and target market.
